A common question is whether a local estradiol or micronized progesterone medicine is the same as a “bioidentical” hormone used at home.

However, the word “bioidentical” does not mean that different brands, strengths, routes or formulations are automatically interchangeable. That information helps identify the medicine, but it does not mean Valiera is automatically an appropriate replacement for every estradiol tablet, patch, gel or spray used overseas.
Route matters. Oral estradiol and transdermal estradiol are not simply interchangeable milligram-for-milligram. A doctor or pharmacist should review any planned switch.
Micronized progesterone and Utrogestan
Utrogestan 100mg is a brand containing micronized progesterone. NHS guidance describes the progesterone in Utrogestan as identical to the progesterone naturally produced by the body. Besins Healthcare also notes that Utrogestan formulations and approved indications can vary between countries.
This is especially relevant to international travelers. A box with the same brand name may have different approved routes, packaging information or excipients depending on the market.
Why inactive ingredients matter
